Follow these instructions to use the Lab results feature while logged into the web app:
- Go to the Lab Results tab in the menu bar.
- Click ‘Add’ in the top right, and select one of the following: ‘soil lab result’, ‘sap lab result’, or attachment for a ‘field’ or ‘sample location’.
- Now, attach the lab results file from your computer. You can choose the relevant sample location of your lab results, edit the date, and add notes.
- Click ‘Save’.
- Your lab results will now show up in the Lab results tab in the menu bar, so you can view the files you have uploaded and the notes you’ve added in one place!
For soil, sap and other types of lab results, you can automatically extract the lab results from PDFs uploaded using our Lab Results Extraction feature. See how to do this below.
Lab Results Extractor 🔬
The automated Lab Results Extraction feature allows you to upload a PDF of lab results to Soilmentor, and to extract the results from the PDF automatically, saving time & allowing you to use Soilmentor to track your individual results over time!
This feature is able to extract soil & sap lab results. If you’d like to extract different types of lab results, email us on [email protected] and we can add them for you.

ℹ️
It is important to remember that although in most cases this feature is able to find and extract your results perfectly, it is not always 100% accurate, so it is very important to double check / cross reference the pdf you have uploaded with the results presented by Soilmentor!

🪄 How to automatically extract lab results
- While logged into the Soilmentor web app, head to the Lab Results tab in the menu bar and go to ‘Add’ → Select the lab result you’d like to upload. On the next page, add the attachment to the pdf.
ℹ️ N.B. If your lab result pdf contains results for the whole farm with multiple fields on one document, we recommend selecting the first field / soil sample in your list, as you can specify the fields & soil samples for each result in the next page!
- Once the pdf has been uploaded, and you’re back on the Lab Results page, click the ‘Extract data’ button to begin the automatic data extraction into Soilmentor. Please note that only PDF file types can be uploaded.
- On the next page, you will need to double check each of the values that have been extracted with your original pdf. If you don’t have a printed version of the pdf available, we find this is easiest to do in a split screen on your computer, by pulling the pdf up on one half of the screen, and keeping Soilmentor open in the other half, so you can quickly check back and forth!
- Click ‘Save’, and the extracted results will be added to Soilmentor!
